The STEM Training in Ethics of Publication Practices (STEPP) project, funded by the National Science Foundation (SES-1926348), is dedicated to promoting ethical publication practices across STEM disciplines. Running from 2020 to 2024, this initiative focuses on equipping researchers and students with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complex landscape of scientific publishing with integrity.
The project is led by Dr. Amy Koerber as Principal Investigator, with Dr. Kerk Kee, Dr. Glenn Cummins, Dr. Lyombe Eko, and Dr. Karin Ardon-Dryer as Co-PIs. Together, the team aims to address critical challenges in STEM publication ethics, including authorship disputes, data integrity, and the responsible dissemination of research findings.
Through a combination of training programs, workshops, and resources, the STEPP initiative fosters a culture of transparency and accountability, preparing STEM professionals to uphold the highest standards of ethical communication in their fields.
The project has been completed. To learn more, please see the open-access book that was the final deliverable for the project: The Predatory Paradox: Ethics, Politics, and Practices in Contemporary Scholarly Publishing.
