2nd Diffusion Research Symposium 2025

Hosted by the Innovation Diffusion Lab at Texas Tech University,

Open Invitation:

 

We are excited to invite undergraduate and graduate students from Texas Tech University, co-sponsoring universities (to be announced), the U.S., and around the world to submit their research to the 2nd Diffusion Symposium 2025, focusing on the Diffusion of Innovations paradigm (Rogers, 2003). Faculty members may participate as co-authors, but the primary submission should come from students. Interested individuals without a paper are also welcome to register and attend the symposium. 

This fully virtual symposium aims to support global participation, providing a platform for sharing research on the diffusion and dissemination of innovations and information in the contemporary world. We encourage submissions based on fully completed studies, work-in-progress, and research at any stage of development.

Potential Topics:

​

We welcome submissions on any research related to the Diffusion of Innovations. Topics can include but are not limited to:

​

  • Theoretical extensions and/or practical applications of diffusion of innovations

  • Diffusion of technological (artificial intelligence, social media), scientific (cyberinfrastructure, biotechnology), or social innovations (social entrepreneurship, community-sponsored agriculture)

  • Adoption and implementation of innovations in organizations, communities, or societies for promoting resilience/adaptability, one health, cybersecurity, sustainable/renewable energy, thriving local communities. 

  • Barriers and enablers to innovation diffusion

  • Inter- and cross-cultural perspectives on the diffusion of innovations and the dissemination of information

  • The role of interpersonal communication, communication networks, and social influence in innovation diffusion

  • Diffusion of innovation in healthcare, education, business, or government sectors

  • Dissemination and implementation science in health communication

  • Information diffusion in mass communication, journalism, public relations, advertising, political communication, etc.

  • The diffusion of mis/dis-information, and/or strategies for addressing this challenge

  • Case studies exploring the diffusion process in real-world settings

 

All submissions should demonstrate a clear connection to the Diffusion of Innovations theory and should contribute to advancing understanding in the field.

Submission Guidelines:

​

  • Format: Abstracts (250-500 words, excluding references, figures, and tables)

  • Style: Please follow APA 7th edition for formatting guidelines.

  • Eligibility: Submissions are open to undergraduate and graduate students only. Faculty members may be listed as co-authors.

  • Additional Information: Include author name(s) and up to five keywords separately.

  • Submission Deadline: March 15, 2025

 

Submission Format: PDF, MS Word. Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced.

Awards:
The Top Diffusion Research Awards will recognize the top three presentations (based on abstract, content, and presentation) selected by a panel of faculty judges. Certificates of participation will be provided to all student presenters.

Symposium Details:

  • Keynote Speakers: To be announced.

  • Panels: Featuring presentations on accepted abstracts.

Since the symposium is entirely virtual, participants can join from anywhere. We encourage global submissions and attendance.

Acceptance emails will be sent out approximately by April 1, 2025. If accepted, participants will be expected to prepare an 8- to 10-minute presentation of their paper. Presentations must be delivered live during the symposium. Presentations will be organized into panels, followed by a brief Q&A session with the audience.

Submission Deadline: March 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. CDT.
