Leveraging Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and Developing Organizational Resilience for NSF Large Facilities in the Pandemic Era

This project investigates how NSF-funded Large Facilities/Major Facilities (LFs/MFs)—such as telescopes, observatories, and research fleets—adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic. By leveraging advanced cyberinfrastructure technologies and communication strategies, these facilities were able to pivot effectively and sustain their scientific missions amidst unprecedented disruptions.

The study focuses on identifying lessons learned from these adaptations and exploring how they can be distilled and shared to cultivate resilience across MFs and beyond. This effort aims to prepare organizations for future crises and disasters, enhancing their ability to navigate disruptions while maintaining operational excellence.

This project is conducted in collaboration with Ewa Deelman at the Information Sciences Institute, University of Southern California (under OAC #2042054).
