IDL faculty lead, Dr. Kerk Kee, a collaborator on the project "Developing Communication Strategies to Support Recruitment & Retention of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Professionals in West Texas," is contributing his expertise in communication strategies to address the critical shortage of mental health providers in the region.

This initiative, funded by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC), is led by Dr. Trent Seltzer from Texas Tech University, in collaboration with Dr. Chris Crews, Dr. Jennifer Nelon, Dr. Randall G. Cummins, Dr. Clay Callison, and Dr. Kee. Together, the team is focused on developing evidence-based approaches to improve recruitment and retention of child and adolescent mental health professionals.

With Lubbock and Midland counties having fewer than 17 providers per 100,000 children—and 87 surrounding rural counties having none—this work is vital for improving access to mental health care in underserved areas.

IDL faculty lead Dr. Kee’s involvement in this important collaboration exemplifies his ongoing commitment to advancing innovative solutions for real-world challenges.
